CHURCH EXPERIENCE

I've provided church leadership as a volunteer, paid staff and ordained PC(USA) minister. I have overseen worship services--from planning to preaching to picking hymns. I've provided pastoral care, planned VBS, taught Sunday school for 3-year-olds and 93-year olds. I've conducted weddings and funerals, talked theology with young adults and created websites.

FREELANCE EXPERIENCE

I've been working as a freelance writer and editor since 2000. Currently I'm a columnist for Presbyterians Today magazine (PT). I was also the interim editor for PT in 2016-2017. Other clients include Presbyterian News Service, The Thoughtful Christian, Redstone Presbytery, The Ellis School, Apple Hill Playhouse, and other media outlets. As a freelancer I've done the following:

  • Generate ideas for articles, newsletters and brochures
  • Cover events for news services
  • Write text for newspapers, magazines, newsletters and brochures
  • Assign, edit and layout text for brochures, newsletters and magazines
  • Oversee design, printing and distribution of print products
  • Provide video, web and social media services

MEDIA EXPERIENCE

After graduating from college, I spent five years working in Pittsburgh radio as a talk show producer, news writer and reporter for various stations including KDKA, WSHH and WJPA. I also spent time flying in circles in an airplane over the city of Pittsburgh reporting on traffic to various radio stations.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I devoted several years to working with high school youth, both as a public school teacher and a church volunteer. In this capacity, I taught English, Video Production and directed several theatrical presentations.
